Join us as we learn from Phil Black, AIA, LEED AP (Founding Principal at B Group Architecture, Inc.) about his journey in the Himalayas visiting Buddhist monasteries, a climb to Everest Base Camp, and walking the Khumbu Glacier at almost 19,000 ft. elevation!

Speaker Bio:

An Auburn graduate, Phil also studied with the Royal Academy of Architecture in London. He has over 35 years experience working as an architect in the commercial, institutional, and educational markets. Phil is a registered achitect in eight states, including AL, and he is also Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certified. He is a Founding Principal with B-Group Architecture, Inc. in Birmingham, Alabama, a firm with projects throughout the State of Alabama and across the US. Phil is a Past President of AIA Birmingham, AIA Alabama, & the Alabama Center for Architecture.

He became involved with disaster relief after Hurricane Katrina and spent several weeks in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi helping with the recovery efforts. After the Haitian Earthquake in 2010, Phil flew on one of the first commercial flights after the quake and spent a total of seven weeks over several trips to work on projects in Port Au Prince and the surrounding mountains including a children’s clinic, school, and sustainable harvest garden.
 
He became interested in the Nepal region after their recent earthquake and fulfilled a lifelong dream of experiencing Mount Everest and the Himalayas first hand in October 2019 with a trek that lasted a month and covering over 100 miles.
